1856 - Culinary Residence is located at the corner of the campus and community of Auburn restaurants, the country’s first tasting-menu-only teaching restaurant – a truly unique and elevated experience where education meets experiential dining.
A new star among Auburn restaurants, 1856 - Culinary Residence is an upscale teaching restaurant, named after the year of Auburn University’s founding, anchoring the first floor of the new Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center. Students in the Auburn University College of Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management work under the guidance of a Chef in Residence, Ford Fry to prepare and serve an à la carte lunch menu (walk ins welcome) and tasting menu format during dinner service (reservations required). Each year, an acclaimed chef will work alongside our Ithaka Hospitality Partners team as well as Auburn University faculty and staff to create a unique restaurant concept, providing a one-of-a-kind, ever-changing culinary experience for students and restaurant guests alike, unique among all Auburn restaurants. Thomas Price is Master Sommelier in Residence.
